What it checks against

The four official IELTS Writing criteria, nothing else. The marking guide follows the published band descriptors, and the report comes back in the same four sections.

  • Task Response — Did you answer all of the question, hold your position to the end, and back every reason with an example. Dropping the second half of a two-part question is a frequent sight.
  • Coherence & Cohesion — One idea per paragraph, and linkers that point at the real relationship between sentences. The official descriptors single out 'over use' of cohesive devices.
  • Lexical Resource — Repeated words, conversational phrases (traffic jam), memorised chunks, and 'difficult' words used with the wrong meaning.
  • Grammatical Range & Accuracy — The errors Korean speakers repeat: articles and plurals, subject–verb agreement, prepositions, tense, and sentences translated straight from Korean.

Frequently asked questions

Who can use it?
Anyone with a free account (email verified) can run up to 2 a day; enrolled students get 3. A free account needs only a name and an email, and deleting it erases your details. For a review read by a person, send one answer on KakaoTalk; Brian marks it himself, free.
Why is there no band score?
In the real exam a trained examiner grades four criteria, each as a whole band, and the average is your score. A '6.5' that a machine prints after reading one essay has none of that behind it — yet students plan months of study around it. This diagnosis quotes the exact sentences that lose marks and says why instead. A number starts an argument; a sentence to fix starts a rewrite. If you need a number, use a real test or a mock exam.
Is a person or an AI reading my answer?
This page is read by an AI — one working from a marking guide Brian wrote against the official band descriptors, and every sentence the report quotes is checked by code against your actual text (invented quotes are discarded). A report read by a person is free for one answer sent on KakaoTalk — Brian reads that one himself.
Does it take Task 1? Do I have to paste the question?
Both Task 1 and Task 2. The question is optional. For Task 1, attach one PNG, JPG, WebP or PDF of the graph or question (up to 5 MB; PDFs up to 3 pages). Attachments are deleted after analysis.
What happens to my answer?
The report opens only through the token in its URL: only people you give that URL to can see it, it is never indexed, and it is deleted after 30 days. IP addresses are not stored.
How long should the answer be, and how long does it take?
From 80 to 600 words. It usually takes 40 seconds to a minute; keep the page open and the report appears in place. Save the URL to come back to it later.
What should I do with the report?
